kitchen

when my grandmother

bought an electric stove in 1945 she exclaimed in her Christmas letter that making breakfast took her only 15 minutes instead of an hour! More conveniences were added to my mother's kitchen, and the food we ate became further and further from it's source.

After years of auto immune and environmental illnesses, I have returned to my grandmother's kitchen for the sake of my health. While I've retained modern conveniences, and certain non-local food items, increasingly I grow my own fruit, vegetables, and herbs, buy locally, and make almost everything we eat from scratch. Convenience has given way to whole food preparation and a gluten free diet.  Improved health, well being, and delicious food has been the result.

"The kitchen is a country in which

there are always discoveries to be made"

Grimod de la Reyniere, 1758-1838
